India Hosts 13th AITIGA Joint Committee Meeting in New Delhi to Accelerate ASEAN Trade Pact Review
India hosted the 13th ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement Joint Committee meeting in New Delhi to accelerate the review of the trade pact. Officials from India and ASEAN nations discussed pending chapters, assigned deadlines to Sub-Committees, and focused on strengthening regional trade cooperation.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry stated that the Joint Committee provided strategic guidance to the Sub-Committees working across different areas of the AITIGA review process. It directed the committees to accelerate the completion of pending chapters under the agreement and assigned time-bound responsibilities to ensure progress within the agreed timelines.
The Ministry further informed that meetings of three out of the eight Sub-Committees under the AITIGA Joint Committee are currently being conducted alongside the 13th Joint Committee meeting. These include the Sub-Committee on Customs Procedures and Trade Facilitation, the Sub-Committee on National Treatment and Market Access, and the Sub-Committee on Rules of Origin.
The meetings are aimed at strengthening cooperation, enhancing mutual understanding, and promoting constructive discussions between India and ASEAN member states to achieve progress in the trade agreement review process.
The 13th AITIGA Joint Committee meeting held on Tuesday was co-chaired by Additional Secretary, Department of Commerce, Nitin Kumar Yadav, and Deputy Secretary General (Trade), Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry, Malaysia, Mastura Ahmad Mustafa.
Delegations from all ASEAN member states, including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam, participated in the meeting.
The ongoing discussions represent a crucial effort by India and ASEAN nations to strengthen trade cooperation, resolve pending issues, and advance the comprehensive review of the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement through coordinated negotiations and structured dialogue.
